This Resource’s Key Interpretations and Insights Related to the Purposes of This Website
Many are unaware that, since 2004, evangelical Christianity has developed a strong center-right challenging its own far-right that had turned off so many Americans, especially the younger generations.
This book is one of the most important resources from Christian evangelical leaders emerging since 2004 seeking to strengthen a growing centrist movement, especially among younger generation evangelicals. From my standpoint, this book describes a new “center-right” on the Christian portion of the faith & politics spectrum, showing that even among conservative Christians today there are centrists standing over against the extreme right and left. When added to the “center-left to left” groups spotlighted in 6.6 Jones, Robert P. (2008), Progressive & Religious: How Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and Buddhist Leaders Are Moving Beyond the Culture Wars and Transforming American Public Life it rounds out today’s rich centrist religious faith diversity. This should disabuse anyone of the notion that the only religious political involvement in the U.S. comes from far-right Christian extremists.

George Hunsinger (McCord Professor of Theology, Princeton Theological Seminary) says, “In this important book, David Gushee gives the lie to the sorry myth that evangelicals are all right-wing extremists. Not only does he show that many are politically progressive, but also that most of them are actually or potentially political moderates with a strong biblical conscience.”
